Blackwidow T20 finals

This past Wednesday at the Imperial Wanderers stadium the final of the Blackwidow T20 Tournament took place. The first match was the women's final which was competed between Delfos Ladies vs Soweto Pioneer Ladies.

The Delfos Ladies won the toss and chose to bat and posted 130-4 in 20 overs their innings was built around star batter Modester Mupachikwa who scored 76 of 58 balls with 1 six and 10 fours. Jameelah Shaikjee contributed with a cameo 16 of 7 which included 3 boundaries.

The chase was delayed by rain and 9 overs were lost due to the rain staying around for over an hour. The Soweto Pioneers were set a revised target of 82 from 11 overs when they came out to chase and made a good start in pursuit of their target but once they lost the wicket of S.Kemp who scored 20 of 17 the rest of their batsman struggled to put up a fight against very good bowling performance from the Delfos Ladies team as they won the match by 20 runs on the Duckworth Lewis system and were crowned champions of the women's Blackwidow T20 tournament for 2021/22.

The second match of the day was the men's final between the Delfos cc and Old Eds. Old Eds batted 1st and posted a total of  178-6 in 20 overs with Lions batsman Ruan Haasbroek being the star scoring 83 of 49 and also adding taking 1-33 in 4 overs with the ball later on.

In the chase for Delfos C, Abrahams and J.DU Toit both put up a great effort to chase the target set with contributions of 31 of 15 and 47 of  40 but after them, the rest of the batters struggled to score as the Old Eds spinners bowled brilliantly during the middle overs as Old Eds claimed victory by 22 runs to be crowned champions of the men's Blackwidow T20 tournament for 2021/22.

The day showed that on both sides the women's and men's cricket pipeline for the lines and Proteas has a lot of talent available eg players like Codi Yusuf, Ruan Haasbroek, M Van Vuuren, Modester and Shaikjee all have bright future ahead of them as they will be starts for the Imperial Lions and Proteas.

Proteas vs India 2nd test Day 1 review

The second test match between Proteas and India kicked off on a high note with the hosts putting up a horrendous batting performance on day 1. The Proteas team won the toss and elected to bat first, but they failed to make the most of the opportunity as the Indian bowlers wreaked havoc on the home team's batting line-up bowling them out for 55. Mohammed Siraj was the chief destroyer with 6 wickets for 15 runs in 9 overs. He was equally supported by Mukesh and Bumrah both taking 2 wickets each.  The Indian team lost their first wicket early on, with Jaiswal departing for a duck. The rest of the top-order batsmen struggled to get going as well, and the team was bowled out for 153. However, a brilliant counter-attacking innings from Markram helped the home team to 62-3 at stumps to steady the ship.  It was an excellent day for bowlers on both sides as 23 wickets fell for 270 runs.  The Proteas bowlers, led by Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, were impressive after t...

England crowned T20 world Champions for the 2nd time.

Congratulations to England on becoming T20 world champions for the second time.  England has become only the second team to win the T20 world cup more than once after winning the 2022 T20 world cup. England is currently the best team in white ball cricket. The brand of cricket they play is just admirable. England's aggressive brand of cricket has made them one of the most dangerous teams in the world and they transition this bold brand into their test game. Going forward, they will be one of the most hazardous sides across all three formats.  The final was mostly dominated by England as they won the toss and chose to bowl 1st. Pakistan had a decent start and looked good until the 11th over and then fell away as England's bowlers squeezed the run flow Pakistan's middle order was not up to the task as they could only manage to post 137-8 in their 20 overs. Overall Pakistan's batting was poor today as they struggled to get away from the England bowlers. The turning point i...
