CSA T20 Challenge 2022


The CSA T20 challenge has come to an end and Gebets Rocks have been crowned champions for the 1st time. 

The tournament took place in Porth Elizabeth st Goerges park in a bio bubble. The tournament had a few nail-biting encounters and the fight to make the final 4 went down to the last day of the league phase. The top 4 teams were Titans, Western Cape, Dolphins, Rocks. 

The tournament showcased the talent available for Proteas and also the depth of players and the future of South African cricket is bright. The tournament had experienced players mixed with young upcoming talent and the blend was fruitful as the results showed the players benefited from mixing with the experienced players. 

There were a few standout players to name a few Tristan Stubbs who scored 293 at an average of 48.83  at a strike rate of 183.12,  Peter Malan at 363 at an average of 46 at a strike rate of 118.70 and Wihan Lubbe 231 at an average of 38.50 at a strike rate of 122.22 plus 4 wickets. 

This tournament has helped create more options for the Proteas team as they prepare for the T20 world cup later this year in Australia although conditions were not ideal the tournament was still a success and also it was good to see fans back in the stadium in South Africa. 

The final was played by the Gebets Rocks and Titans. The Rocks won the final by 15 runs and capped off an excellent comeback after losing their first 2 matches in the tournament. They won the remaining 4 out of 5 matches to make the semifinal and then they beat the Western province in the semifinal and then the Titans in the final to win the tournament.

SA20 review

 The SA20 season 2 has ended with Sunrisers Eastern Cape successfully defending their title to win back-to-back titles. The Sunrisers were the team to beat as they played an excellent brand of cricket and dominated throughout the tournament winning 7 matches and losing 2 with 1 no result to top the table in the league stage.  The final of SA20 season 2 was played by the 2 best teams of the tournament the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Durban Super Giants. Sunrisers proved too good for Super Giants beating them by 89 runs to not only successfully defend their SA20 title but also win the head-to-head between the 2 teams 3-1.  SA20 season 2 saw some unbelievable performances with quite a few young South African players taking the opportunity and shining. Australia vs Pakistan 3rd test day 3 review

  The third day of the third Test match between Australia and Pakistan was exciting, with both teams battling it out on the field. Australia resumed on 116-2 with Labuschange and Smith continuing to score steadily and take Australia closer to Pakistan's first innings score of 313. Labuschange and Smith added 71 runs before both Smith and Labuschange lost their wickets one after the other. Australia then managed a few small partnerships to take their score to 289 before collapsing to 299 all out giving Pakistan a first-innings lead of 14 runs.  Pakistan began their 2nd innings in the worst way possible by losing 2 quick wickets in opener Abdulla Shafiq and Captain Shan Masood both for ducks. Saim Ayub and Babar Azam then gave Pakistan some hope with a partnership of 57 before Pakistan's batting collapsed from 58-2 to 68-7 to end the day staring at defeat and missing another chance to win their 1st test in 28 years.
