The Proteas completed a 2-0 series win against West Indies to finish 3rd in the 2021-23 WTC cycle. The Proteas performance was led by Captain Bavuma as he scored 172 to lead the way as Proteas beat West Indies by 284 runs in the 2nd test.
The Proteas batted first and posted 320 with Markram 96 and De Zorzi 85 being the top 2 scorers for the Proteas first Innings. The Proteas started well again with a opening partnership of 76 and 2nd wicket Partnership of 116 between Markram and De Zorzi. They also had a 3rd wicket Partnership of 56 between De Zorzi and Bavuma. These were the 3 most significant partnerships during the innings, and this is a good total on this pitch
The Proteas then came out to bowl and were in control early on as they picked up wickets regularly and didn't allow the West Indies to get away with any good partnerships. The West Indies were eventually bowled out for 251 with Holder top scoring with 81. The Proteas took a 1st innings lead of 69 runs
The Proteas were in early trouble during their 2nd innings as they were 8-2 and it looked like West Indies would find a way back into the match but the Proteas Captain Bavuma had other plans as he scored a career defining 172 and on the way shared a partnership of 103 with Mulder and 71 with Harmer as Proteas ended up scoring 321 to add to their 69 run lead giving the West Indies a target of 391 to win the last test.
The Proteas were exceptional with the ball as Coetzee 3 wickets, Harmer 3 wickets, Rabada 2 wickets and Maharaj 2 wickets ripped through the West Indies batting line up to bowl them out for 106 and win the test by a massive 284 runs. The Proteas bowlers were very consistent with their line and length as they forced the batsman to play every delivery and the West Indies batsman had no answers as the just kept losing their wicket.
It was a good series for the Proteas as they began a new era under the new captain Bavuma with two thrashing wins.
The focus will now move to the ODI series as preparation for the World cup begins.
