Proteas vs England 2nd test Day 1 Review: England edge ahead

England have their noses ahead of the 2nd test after day 1 came to a close. Proteas won the toss and chose to bat, and their batsman failed to back their captain's decision as they were bowled out just after tea for 151.

The morning started with an early strike for England as veteran Anderson got the wicket of Erwee for 3 caught behind. England seamers continued their good work as Broad got the wicket of Elgar for 12 caught by Bairstow in the slips, soon after Keegan Petersen was out caught by Root in slips bowled by Broad. Markram and Van der Dussen had just got a partnership going when Makram played a loose shot to sky one straight up in the air as he was caught by Foakes of the bowling of Stokes. Van der Dussen followed 2 overs later as he was out LBW to Stokes to send the Proteas into Lunch on 77-5.

In the afternoon session, Proteas' lower order and wicketkeeper Batsman Verreynne showed some resistance as they got Proteas to 151 runs. The first wicket to fall in the afternoon session was Harmer LBW to Anderson and the very next ball Maharaj was out LBW to Aderson putting him on a Hat Trick. Anderson didn't get his hat trick but bowled superbly as he continually asked the Proteas batsman questions. Broad then got Verreynne caught behind before Rabada and Nortje put together Protea's best partnership of the innings of 35 to take the Proteas to a total of 143 before Nortje was out LBW to Robinson and Shortly after that Rabada the top score of the Proteas innings was out for 36 caught by Root of the bowling of  Leach as the Proteas innings came to an end.

The England reply in the evening got off to a shaky start as they lost 3 wickets for 43 runs it looked like Proteas bowlers would bring them back into the game before Bairstow and Crawly Steadied the ship and took England to stumps on 111-3 still trailing Proteas by 40 runs.

England are in control of this test for now but hopefully Proteas will make a comeback.
