The Betway ODI series between SA and West Indies gets underway with the first ODI in East London on Thursday. This series will form part of both teams' preparation for the World cup later this year although both teams still need to qualify for the World cup. The West Indies depend on New Zealand, Netherlands, and Bangladesh to win their remaining matches so that they can seal the last direct qualification spot, which is looking unlikely. The Proteas control their own faith as they still have 2 matches left against the Netherlands and if they win those 2 matches comfortably, they should be able to seal the last qualification spot providing New Zealand and Bangladesh win one match in their series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This ODI series will provide some much need confidence to whoever wins and should allow them to build going forward as they look to find the right combinations for the world cup.
