CSA domestic Relegation/Promotion System

This week CSA announced the point system for the Promotion and relegation for the new domestic system which compromises two divisions. The points are awarded according to performance in each competition. The Promotion and Relegation system will go over a 2-year cycle.

The division 1 points system is as follows this competed across 3 tournaments.

Winner tournament 15 points

Runner up gets       10 points

3rd position           7 points

4th position           5 points

5th position           3 points

6th position          2 points

7th position         1 point

Last position       0 points

Division 1 Standings after this season

So after this season in Division 1, the team in danger of getting Relegated is the ITEC Knights who after starting the season on a winning note by winning the provincial T20 tournament that consisted of all 15 teams from both divisions. Note the provisional T20 tournament does not count towards promotion/relegation points.

The other teams that could come into trouble and be relegated at end of next season are the North West Dragons, Hollywoodbets Dolphins, Six-Gun Grill Western Province, GBETS Warriors and GBETS Rocks as these teams had an average season in the season gone by.

The 8 teams will want to have a very strong performance next season to make sure they are still in division 1 come the end of next season.

Division 2 points System competes across 2 tournaments

Winner of tournament  15 points

Runner up                     10 points

3rd position                    7 points

4th position                    5 points

5th position                    3 points

6th position                   1 point

Last position                0 points

Division 2 Standings after this season

The two teams leading the race for promotion are the Northen Cape Heat and Hollywoodbets Tuskers. South Western Districts are also in a strong position and another good season can help them put pressure on the Tuskers and Heat in the Race for promotion. This is going to be an interesting fight between the 3 teams once the 2022/23 season gets on the way.

How all 15 teams will do in the next season will depend on the offseason transfers as players move around to different teams. It's going to be interesting to see who signs for which team and which teams manage to keep most of their players as they look to settle their teams and figure out combinations ahead of the new season.

I don't see any drastic changes happening to these points tables come to the end of the next season Maybe in division 1 teams in positions 2 and 3 switch positions and the bottom 5 teams who have a 10 point difference between 5th and last position could see changes as it requires eg Knights to have a good season and one off the other 4 are in danger.

In division 2 also I don't see many changes except for the Eastern Storm will have a better season after a nightmare season. The Promotion battle will be interesting and should be between the Tuskers and Heat but a slip-up from one of the 2 could open a chance for SWD to sneak in the other 2 with an outside chance the Eastern Cape Inyathi and Mpumalanga Rhinos will need to win both the 50 over and 4-day tournament to give themselves a chance at promotion.
