IPL midseason review

IPL has reached the midseason point and the biggest surprise is Mumbai Indians are the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race as they have lost their first eight matches. The other team in danger of being eliminated is Chennai Super Kings who have won 2 out 8 matches they have played.

The two most dominant teams of the IPL 9 trophies between the two are the two teams fighting for the wooden spoon in the 15th edition of the IPL is the biggest surprise as not many fans would have anticipated this to be how things would unfold.

The two teams that were pointed out as the two weakest teams and would be the bottom 2 are the current top 2 teams in the IPL 2022 and look well on their way to securing a playoff spot. The Gujarat titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad coming out of the auction had the weakest teams on paper, they have managed to change that perspective with excellent performance so on the field so far.

Currently, the Sunrisers Hyderabad are on a 5 match winning streak and Gujarat Titans are on a 3 match winning streak.  SRH lost their first match and since then have gone on to win 5 on the trot. The Gujarat Titans won their first 3 matches and then lost to SRH and since then have won their last 3 matches. GT 12 points and SRH 10 points are comfortably the top 2 at the moment.

The rest of the teams in the middle of the table are still fighting it out for playoff spots with RR and LSG leading the racing with RCB falling behind after their huge defeat to Sunrisers left them with a negative net run rate. DC, KKR and PKBS are the 3 teams borderline with the Punjab Kings the worst of the 3 with a negative net run rate. These 3 teams have a lot of ground to cover if they are to make it in too the playoffs they also will need a few other results to go in their favour to increase their chances even more.

Punjab might be 2 points ahead of DC and KKR but their negative net run rate leaves them in a spot of bother as the race for playoff positions get tensed.

Here are the standings so far

My four teams for the playoffs at the half way stage are GT, SRH ,RR and RCB

Do share who are your 4 teams for the playoffs as the 2nd half of the IPL intensifies

SA20 review

The SA20 season 2 has ended with Sunrisers Eastern Cape successfully defending their title to win back-to-back titles. The Sunrisers were the team to beat as they played an excellent brand of cricket and dominated throughout the tournament winning 7 matches and losing 2 with 1 no result to top the table in the league stage.  The final of SA20 season 2 was played by the 2 best teams of the tournament the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Durban Super Giants. Sunrisers proved too good for Super Giants beating them by 89 runs to not only successfully defend their SA20 title but also win the head-to-head between the 2 teams 3-1.  SA20 season 2 saw some unbelievable performances with quite a few young South African players taking the opportunity and shining. The young standout SA batsman were:  Rickelton 530 runs ave 58.88, strike-rate 173.77 Breetzke 416 runs ave 32, strike-rate 135.50  Stubbs 301 runs ave 60.20, strike-rate, 168.15   Mulder 297 runs...

Australia vs Pakistan 3rd test day 3 review

The third day of the third Test match between Australia and Pakistan was exciting, with both teams battling it out on the field. Australia resumed on 116-2 with Labuschange and Smith continuing to score steadily and take Australia closer to Pakistan's first innings score of 313. Labuschange and Smith added 71 runs before both Smith and Labuschange lost their wickets one after the other. Australia then managed a few small partnerships to take their score to 289 before collapsing to 299 all out giving Pakistan a first-innings lead of 14 runs.  Pakistan began their 2nd innings in the worst way possible by losing 2 quick wickets in opener Abdulla Shafiq and Captain Shan Masood both for ducks. Saim Ayub and Babar Azam then gave Pakistan some hope with a partnership of 57 before Pakistan's batting collapsed from 58-2 to 68-7 to end the day staring at defeat and missing another chance to win their 1st test in 28 years. Pakistan last won a test match in Australia in 1995...
