Proteas vs West Indies Day 1 Review

The 2nd test between South Africa and West Indies started yesterday and the West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The West Indies made a good start as they restricted South Africa to 37/3. before South Africa fought back with a partnership of 87 between Elgar and Verreynne and then a partnership of 79 between Elgar and de Kock.

The first session of the day belonged to West Indies as they went to Lunch having reduced the visitors to 44/3. In that session, South Africa lost the wickets of Markram, Peterson and Van der Dussen.

The second session went to South Africa as they scored 81 runs for the loss of the wicket of Verreynne. Elgar and Verreynne steadily built their partnership as they took their team out of trouble.

The third session also went to South Africa as they scored a further 93 runs for the loss of Elgar's wicket as they ended what turned to be a good day for them on 218/5. Elgar and De Kock batted very well together as they pushed South Africa to what is looking like a good first innings total.

The scorecard looked like this

Proteas 218/5 82 overs

Elgar 77 (237)                                                                   S. Gabriel 2-47 (12)

The third test match between Australia and Pakistan kicked off today at the SCG Sydney. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. However, their decision did not go well as the Australian bowlers dominated the Pakistani batsmen from the very beginning. Pakistan lost their openers, Abdulla Shafiq and Saim Ayub early in the innings and were struggling to recover from there. Babar Azam and Shan Masood tried to stabilize the innings, but the Australian bowlers kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. Mohammed Rizwan, Agha Salaman and Aamer Jamal played some excellent innings in the lower middle order to rescue Pakistan  At the end of the day, Pakistan were bowled out for 313 runs. Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, taking 5 wickets for 61 runs.  Josh Hazlewood took 2 wickets, while Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Marsh took 1 wicket each. Australia are 6-0 at stumps trailing by 307 runs  Australia will be happy with th...
