SA20 Match 2 review: The Don Ferreira Show

Joburg Super Kings have got off to a winning start in the SA20 as they beat Durban Super Giants by 16 runs in match 2 of the league.

The Super Kings won the toss and chose to bat 1st and were in early trouble as they slipped to 27-4 in 6 overs. They were then rescued by Donovan Ferreira and Faf du Plessis who put together a partnership of 72 of 48 at a Strike rate of 150 and then a 2nd partnership of 87 from 35 between Donovan Ferriera and Romario Sheperd at a strike rate of 248.5. These 2 partnerships changed the game totally as Super Kings posted a defendable score of 190.

Donovan Ferreira was the star of the match with both bat and ball as first he helped rescue the Super Kings after a disastrous start, he was a key contributor to both the partnerships that took Super Kings to a winning total as he scored 82 of 40 at a strike rate of 205 which included 8 4s and 5 6s during his innings. He did get off to a shaky start as he edged a few that went over the slips and keeper but once he got himself in, he was unstoppable as he took apart the Super Giants bowlers with some good shots and unbelievable power hitting. He was not done as with the ball in hand he bowled 4 overs of off-spin finishing with 1-28 as he capped off a brilliant performance on the night. Donovan Ferriera is going to be one player to keep an eye out for throughout this tournament.

The Super Giants spinners were great on the night as they did most of the early damage in the powerplay, but the seamers were unable to contain Donovan and Romario as the Super Kings made an excellent comeback into the match. The spinners as well weren't as good in their 2nd spells as the batsman charged them and took them to the cleaners damaging their bowling figures which looked good early on. The only bowler who got away with no damage was Keshav Maharaj who finished with figures of 1-23 in his 4 overs.

The Super Giants' openers got them off to a great start and at one stage it looked like they would get over the line comfortably, but the Super Kings bowlers managed to pull things back as they picked up regular wickets in the middle period to slow things down and their spinners, in particular, made it tough for the newer batsman coming in. The Super Giants middle order struggled to get going and, in the end, the Super King's spinners and Alzarri Joseph were able to restrict the Super Giants' batsman as the other bowlers around them were struggling to contain the batsman.

Well done to the Joburg Super Kings on their 16-run win

Proteas vs India 2nd test Day 1 review

The second test match between Proteas and India kicked off on a high note with the hosts putting up a horrendous batting performance on day 1. The Proteas team won the toss and elected to bat first, but they failed to make the most of the opportunity as the Indian bowlers wreaked havoc on the home team's batting line-up bowling them out for 55. Mohammed Siraj was the chief destroyer with 6 wickets for 15 runs in 9 overs. He was equally supported by Mukesh and Bumrah both taking 2 wickets each.  The Indian team lost their first wicket early on, with Jaiswal departing for a duck. The rest of the top-order batsmen struggled to get going as well, and the team was bowled out for 153. Pakistan vs Australia 2nd test Day 1 review

Australia and Pakistan faced off in the second Test match at MSG. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. The visitors started well with opening bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Mir Hamza getting the ball to move off the seam. However, the Australian batter struck back with a good opening partnership of 90 runs. Australia finished the day at 187/3 off 66 overs as rain played spoilsport, with Hasan Ali, Agha Salman and Aamer Jamal the pick of the bowlers. It was a tough day for the Pakistani bowlers as they struggled to cause Australian bowlers for long enough periods at a time, but they will look to bounce back on Day 2. The Australian batsman will be aiming to put up a big total for their bowlers to bowl too. Overall, it was an exciting day of Test cricket and fans can look forward to more action in the coming days.  Writer: Ebrahim Yusuf Omar
